Across distinct regions and cultural contexts, from country to country, LGBTI efforts in the Global South and East have mobilized to combat injustice, demand their rights, improve their well being and live their lives freely and openly. Despite their significant contributions to civil society—through advocacy, community building, policy reform, arts and culture, and direct services, to name a few—many of these groups survive on meager budgets and with little to no institutional support.

However, as A Global Gaze: LGBTI Grantmaking in the Global South and East demonstrates, a small but committed number of grantmakers is increasingly investing in this sector as a strategy for strengthening global democracy and promoting widespread equity. Learn more about global LGBTI funding.
