Grantmakers and grantees have been talking about diversity in the nonprofit sector for many years, but we haven’t narrowed the nonprofit racial leadership gap yet because the theory of change has been flawed. This session will highlight findings from the Building Movement Project’s Race to Lead series, which draws on survey data from more than 4,000 staff of nonprofits, as well as their deeper analysis of the 20% of the national sample who self-identified as LGBTQ. The discussion will explore the particular role that philanthropy can play in supporting the leadership of LGBTQ people of color.
