Status: The position is full-time, exempt, salaried.

Compensation: Starting salary $65,000 - $71,500, commensurate with experience

Position Description

As the Annual Campaign Manager, you will be welcoming people into the abortion fund community and building a movement of supporters redistributing their resources to create a future where every abortion is fully funded and accessible.

You will work with an extraordinary team to cultivate individuals through a multi-channel fundraising program, annually raising roughly one million dollars for the National Network of Abortion Funds.  As someone who is an innovator and an expert project manager, you will have the opportunity to build out a robust monthly donor program and creatively communicate the impact of donations through direct mail and online campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities

Individual Giving Campaign Management  (approximately 40% of the position)

  • In partnership with the Associate Director of Individual Giving and the Major Gifts Manager, create a strategy for the annual individual donor lifecycle including opportunities for engagement, solicitations, and communication.
  • Strategy Implementation:
    • Manage fundraising calendar, all deadlines and work plans related to annual individual giving campaigns.
    • In partnership with the Major Gifts Manager, coordinate the cycle of activities donors go through before and after making a donation, with a specific focus on developing new opportunities to engage and grow grassroots and mid-level donors.
    • Manage the design, production, and distribution of a Fall and Spring print and digital newsletter to donors.
    • Manage the design, content creation, production, and distribution of the annual Spring and Fall appeals. Work with the Associate Director of Individual Giving to determine strategy and the Major Gifts Manager to determine donor targeting/segmentation and any other materials associated with the appeal.
    • Work closely with the Development Coordinator in integrating digital fundraising opportunities into all major appeals.

 

Recurring Donor Program (approximately 20% of the position)

    • Enhance and further develop a robust program for donors who give monthly to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

 

  • Lead the strategy development for a streamlined process to retain, upgrade, and recapture monthly donors.
  • Utilize internal tools including Salesforce and Campaign Monitor to automate and personalize engagement with monthly donors.  

 

Management (approximately 10% of the position)

  • Supervise assigned staff: Write position descriptions and hire assigned staff.  Conduct supervision and evaluations and foster a relationship of mutual feedback. Provide ongoing mentoring to facilitate strategic growth for assigned staff and monitor individual work plans. Conduct necessary performance improvement plans, terminations, and other personnel actions in accordance with personnel policies.
  • Department Leadership: Collaborate with and support the Associate Director of Individual Giving in effectively implementing department work plans.  

 

Administration (approximately 10% of the position)

  • Track donor communications and background in Salesforce.
  • Work with the Development Operations Coordinator to produce quarterly reports, analyzing fundraising impact from individuals.
  • Support Development Associate and Coordinator with administrative activities including acknowledgments and data entry, particularly during busy seasons (calendar year-end and spring.)
  • Seek out articles and participate in trainings to stay current with trends, best practices, strategies, and industry standards related to grassroots fundraising and annual campaigns.

 

Cross-Departmental Collaboration (approximately 10% of the position)

  • Individual Membership:
    • Work closely with the organizing team to continue integrating individual membership with the individual giving program.
    • Lead and maintain the individual membership & monthly donor opt-in program.
  • Provide ad hoc assistance to Funds membership needing fundraising support including  1:1 phone calls or emails and webinars as directed by the Development Director.

Other (approximately 10% of the position)

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications.
  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.
  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by NNAF, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations as relevant to your role.
  • Perform duties required of all staff to support smooth internal operations such as submitting timely expense reports, reimbursement requests, and timesheets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Travel Expectations

Ability to travel as the job requires; approximately five times minimum per year. Travel will primarily be overnight, for approximately 3 - 5 days, and national. Regardless of where the employee lives and barring travel delays outside of an individual’s control, the employee must be able to arrive at the destination on time.

 

Qualifications

Job experience requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience in individual donor fundraising and donor relations.
  • 3+ years of experience in supervision.
  • Experience developing and nurturing positive relationships with donors and supporters.
  • Experience with working with vendors and maintaining major direct mail campaigns, preferred.
  • Experience building and managing a fundraising team of staff, board, and volunteers.

Specific skill sets

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent project management skills; Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Docs.
  • Adept at using a constituent management system (ideally Salesforce); must be comfortable and effective with managing data.
  • Confident using technology to support fundraising.
  • Excellent written communication including skilled at adapting messaging to different audiences and mediums.
  • Highly collaborative and able to thrive as part of a dynamic, generative, and fast-moving organizational culture; a stance that balances flexibility and rigor.

  • Depending on location, a combination of in-office and virtual office at this time. Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing.
  • This position is full time, with employee’s regular full time schedule to be approved by supervisor. Regular hours must include attendance during core business hours from 12:00pm – 5:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Occasional work on evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus.

  • Some work at off-site locations may be required; NNAF aims for accessibility in any off-site location that we have control of, but some of them may not be fully accessible.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person.
  • This role requires frequent sitting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.
