Stonewall Community Foundation, a prolific funder of LGBTQ causes, is seeking an inventive, energetic, and resourceful individual to lead our programmatic work. Partnering closely with the Executive Director, they will be responsible for designing, promoting, and executing grant, scholarship, and education programs that benefit the LGBTQ community, and ensuring these are effective, accessible, and resonant to Stonewall stakeholders. These duties will likewise integrate into fundraising and communications functions to ensure overall mission continuity.


This position is full-time and exempt, requiring evening work on occasion.


Key Responsibilities


Grant and Scholarship Programs

  • Defining strategies to achieve Stonewall’s grantmaking objectives
  • Vetting, tracking, and responding to phone and email funding inquiries
  • Developing thoughtful RFPs, application materials, and selection protocols
  • Facilitating grants deliberation, including participatory models, as needed
  • Crafting tailored grants strategies and portfolios for Stonewall fund partners
  • Processing all grant and scholarship applications, payments, and renewals
  • Identifying meaningful, supplementary ways to advance the work we fund
  • Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing grants reports and data


Education Programs

  • Representing Stonewall within the NYC Capacity Building Collaborative
  • Creating programs that effectively address learning needs of nonprofit leaders
  • Providing broad-based direct technical assistance to Stonewall grantee partners
  • Coordinating dynamic education opportunities across stakeholder groups
  • Maintaining a breadth of knowledge about developments and current trends in policy, philanthropy, and culture, so as to enhance Stonewall’s programmatic impact


Fundraising and Communications

  • Supporting efforts to secure grant revenue via research, writing, and reporting
  • Contributing quality, timely content that amplifies Stonewall programs for inclusion in newsletters, donor reports, our website, social media, and events




The ideal candidate has at least five years of grantmaking and/or relevant nonprofit work experience, along with an advanced literacy of social issues and policy affecting LGBTQ people. They should also have a practiced understanding of how multiple change-making strategies, e.g., art, activism, advocacy, direct action, organizing, etc., coalesce to fuel sociopolitical progress.


Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, including compelling storytelling; a great aptitude for project management; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively; and comfort learning and using new computer software are a must.


In the absence of a bachelor’s degree, applicants should have a solid record of at least seven years’ experience working full-time in the nonprofit sector or a field closely related to this position.


Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Professional proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
