Status: The position is full-time, exempt, salaried.

Compensation: Starting salary $65,000 - $71,500, commensurate with experience

Organizational Overview:

The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic and reproductive justice. Together with our members, we advocate for cultural and political change to ensure access for people who face the greatest obstacles to abortion access: women with lower incomes, women of color, young women, and transgender and gender nonconforming people. This is an exciting time for NNAF as we grow and nurture new funds emerging in underserved areas, deepen our support for funds working within the reproductive justice framework, and co-lead a bold national coalition campaign to increase abortion access by restoring Medicaid coverage for abortion. NNAF is comprised of a multi-racial, multi-religious, gender expansive staff of 35, located across the United States. We know how important it is to support our remote staff to maintain connection and cohesiveness as a team. To this end, we ensure weekly one-on-one supervision, face-to-face virtual staff meetings, quarterly in-person meetings, and more.

 

Position Description:

The successful candidate for Regional Membership & Network Manager will be responsible for the strategy and implementation of network building activities that support abortion funds and their stakeholders to collaborate radically within their region(s) and across our whole network. These activities facilitate connection, innovation, and self-organizing towards abortion access and reproductive justice, and they strengthen and expand our broader network.

As the Regional Membership & Network Manager, you have a passion and skill for utilizing facilitative leadership for network building. You will work with an extraordinary team to intentionally gather people for powerful purposes, online and in-person, knowing that a connected and aligned network is greater than the sum of its parts.

You are the ideal candidate for this position because you are an innovator and expert project manager, and you are excited to use those skills to bring together many different groups and people to achieve ambitious, complex goals—such as making measurable improvements in streamlining collaboration between funds for caller-centered service delivery. You have a depth and breadth of comfort with navigating emergence, complexity, and uncertainty and supporting others to do the same.

Essential Job Functions:

Network Building Programs (approximately 50% of the position)

  • Manage our regional and national network building programs that convene and facilitate collaboration amongst the membership regionally and network-wide. Center accessibility and inclusion in program design, using frameworks such as language justice, community safety, inclusion of parents, and disability justice.
  • Regional Collaboration
    • Lead and project manage the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of regional connection and collaboration within our network through four regional network design teams and a cross-regional committee, which meet online.
      • Provide project management to each region as they move forward with their self-organizing proposals. Ensure alignment and coordination across regions and broader network strategy.
      • Design and implement the broader programmatic strategy of supporting regional network design teams to self-organize for radical collaboration, using tools such as project plans, an arc of engagement, and proposal strategies.
  • Oversee and manage the planning and coordination of logistics for our bi-annual regional convenings. This includes delegation to the Regional Membership & Network Coordinator and Regional Membership & Network Associate.
    • Design and implement the broader programmatic strategy of utilizing regional convenings as a self-organizing space for service delivery and radical collaboration, using tools such as convening agendas and invitation of external stakeholders. Leads cross-departmental collaboration on programmatic strategy.
    • Designs the regional convening space with co-design from regional network design teams and input from staff, grounded in the logistics required to implement the design.
  • National Organizing Summit
    • Lead and project manage the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the bi-annual National Organizing Summit, NNAF’s largest conference of 300+ attendees. This includes delegation to the Regional Membership & Network Coordinator, Regional Membership & Network Associate, others on the Membership Staff, and NNAF as a whole.
    • Design and implement the broader programmatic strategy of growing the Summit as a critical regional, network, and movement in-person space, using tools such as the Summit agenda and invitation of external stakeholders.
    • Contribute to developing innovative programs and sessions that provide training, skillshare, and support while centering network building in Summit strategy.
    • Lead cross-departmental collaboration through the Staff Summit Committee or a similar group of staff members.
    • Supervises the Regional Membership & Network Coordinator in leading the Summit Task Force or a similar group of fund members that supports Summit planning.
  • Design and coordinate other collaborative fund bodies as needs emerge to support the programmatic bucket areas of membership or network building.

 

Membership Department Systems Management (approximately 20% of the position)

  • Work with the Membership Department to provide support to our membership through NNAF convenings, programs, trainings, and technical assistance support.
  • Support strategy and content development for all Membership Department programs in collaboration with the Membership team. Support the creation of project plans, and participate in project management tracking of tasks.
  • Support Membership Team virtual activities, such as webinars, trainings, and web meetings / conference calls, through potential roles such as notetaker, facilitator, and/or tech support during calls.
  • Ensure quality membership data by regularly updating and maintaining information in data systems such as Salesforce.
  • Support the membership enrollment and values alignment process through holding office hours and participating in outreach.
  • Support Membership Department Retreats with agenda input and facilitation support. Support the Regional Membership & Network Associate with logistics coordination.

Management (approximately 20% of the position)

  • Department Leadership:
    • Collaborate with and support the Membership Director in effectively planning and implementing department work plans in consultation with NNAF’s strategic plan.
    • Serve as a channel for communication within the organization, such as major decisions of the Leadership Team and the main goals of the organization to assigned staff, in coordination with and complementary to organization-wide communications.   
  • Supervise assigned staff:
    • Write position descriptions and hire assigned staff.  
    • Conduct supervision and evaluations and foster a relationship of mutual feedback.
    • Provide ongoing mentoring to facilitate strategic growth for assigned staff and monitor individual work plans.
    • Delegate responsibility and empower employees to take ownership over their roles and goals.
    • Conduct necessary performance improvement plans, terminations, and other personnel actions in accordance with personnel policies.

Other (approximately 10% of the position)

  • Actively participate in required convenings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications.
  • Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.
  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities approved by NNAF, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations as relevant to your role.
  • Perform duties required of all staff to support smooth internal operations such as submitting timely expense reports, reimbursement requests, and timesheets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Travel Expectations:

Ability to travel as job requires, approximately 8 - 10 times minimum per year. Travel will primarily be overnight, for approximately 3-7 days, and national. Occasional international travel may be required. Regardless of where employee lives, and barring travel delays outside of an individual’s control, employee must be able to arrive at destination on-time.

 

Qualifications:

Job experience requirements

  • Five years relevant experience.
  • Five years of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating projects with year-long work plans.
  • Three to five years of experience developing and implementing programming and technical support for chapters, affiliates, or member organizations.
  • Three to five years of experience planning content and logistics of convenings of 30-50 people and 250-300 people.
  • One or more years of experience in supervision.

Specific skill sets

  • Excellent project management skills of individual and interconnected programs, especially in a remote setting involving volunteers, staff, and consultants.
  • Creative, proactive, and resourceful approach to planning and strategy formation, including strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Event coordination and project management of large scale events and conferences (300+ attendees).
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills.
  • Good judgment, political sensitivity and savvy.
  • Demonstrated success in relationship-building both one-on-one and in groups, good communicator.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Docs. Willingness to be trained on basic competency of our Salesforce database platform.
  • Highly collaborative and able to thrive as part of a dynamic, generative, and fast-moving organizational culture; a stance that balances flexibility and rigor.

  • Depending on location, a combination of in-office and virtual office at this time. Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing.
  • This position is full time, with employee’s regular full time schedule to be approved by supervisor. Regular hours must include attendance during core business hours from 12:00pm – 5:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Occasional work on evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
  • Smoke- and drug (illegal or recreational)-free environment.
  • Some work at off-site locations may be required; NNAF aims for accessibility in any off-site location that we have control of, but some of them may not be fully accessible.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person.
  • This role requires frequent sitting.
