Senior Consultant (Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, or Washington, D.C.)

Are you passionate about helping companies leverage their scale, expertise, and influence to create positive social change?  Are you committed to advancing racial equity? Are you passionate about issues such as socioeconomic mobility and health equity?

You would start as an individual contributor in a “case team member” role and work toward becoming a “case team leader” during your tenure as a Senior Consultant.

We are offering start dates in the spring as well as late summer / early fall 2021 to accommodate candidates transitioning in the workforce as well as those completing graduate programs.

Your primary responsibilities: While we are specifically seeking skills and expertise to work with corporate clients, FSG’s consultants are generalists and you would also be expected to contribute to teams working with our foundation and nonprofit clients.

• Initially, support client projects as a case team member
  • Design efficient, effective, and appropriate research plans
  • Independently conduct and synthesize accurate, thorough, and timely research; facilitate interviews with clients and stakeholders
  • Lead rigorous and accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis with appropriate consideration of root causes of inequities based on the case context
  • Assess the link between social impact and business opportunities
  • Translate findings into informed, data-based insights and client recommendations and communicate perspectives in clear, concise, and compelling ways
  • Collaborate with team members by giving and receiving feedback; provide coaching and mentorship to teammates as needed
  • When needed, assist with project logistics and coordination
• Over time, transition to managing client projects as a case team leader
  • Develop and execute project plans, including managing timelines, workplans, deliverables, and leading team meetings
  • Coach and develop team members
  • Partner with Director or Managing Director to manage client relationships
• Contribute to firm-wide learning and development
  • Contribute to knowledge development and peer coaching
  • Support the creation of articles, publications, and blog posts
  • Assist with business development efforts (research and proposals) as needed
  • Contribute to FSG’s culture, including creating an inclusive work environment

Your skillset:

3 – 5 years of experience with demonstrated competencies in at least three of the following areas:

• Strategy development or similarly relevant experience (including research, analysis, and synthesis)
  • Development of primary and secondary research plans; experience gathering data including perspectives of people more directly and disproportionately impacted by a particular social issue
  • Quantitative, qualitative, and financial analysis with demonstrated ability to translate findings into clear and meaningful recommendations
  • Ability to assess the link between social problems and business opportunities or challenges
  • Experience applying equity and inclusion principles (e.g., disaggregating data, understanding and analysis of historical context and root causes for inequities, examining population disparities, identifying targeted strategies based on varying assets/needs, and/or designing culturally appropriate interview guides, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel; ability to organize and analyze datasets, create charts/graphs, and develop Excel models
• Client service or similarly relevant experience advising corporate leaders
  • Ability to convey a point of view in a concise and structured way; influence key stakeholders (particularly corporate executives) to action via storytelling and data
  • Strong time management and project planning skills; ability to multitask and work quickly and efficiently to meet project and client deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Capacity to explicitly partner with corporate stakeholders on social inequities (e.g., racial, gender) and integrate equity considerations into the corporate context
• Private sector experience
  • Experience in business strategy and familiarity with corporate operations. Additionally, experience in any of the following fields is preferred: corporate HR, organizational development, and/or corporate social responsibility
  • Passion for addressing social and environmental issues through the private sector
  • Interest in using shared value and racial equity frameworks to help companies enhance their impact in the world
• Facilitation experience, particularly with corporate leaders
  • Experience facilitating inclusive and culturally appropriate conversations with a range of stakeholders across organizations, levels, geographies, and sectors, etc.
  • Experience designing meetings and workshops that engage the full range of participants and elicit input from all stakeholders, especially from people whose voices may be more commonly marginalized

Graduate degree or final year graduate student (e.g., MBA, MPA, MPH, MPP, or other relevant degree) preferred

Ability to travel domestically or internationally ~25-35% of the time (travel requirement varies by project)*

Position: Senior Consultant positions are available in FSG’s Boston, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. offices.* This is a full-time role. At this time, the starting salary for Senior Consultant roles is $107,000. Salaries are set according to an explicit compensation policy, and relevant market data is analyzed when setting salaries for each role. We also offer a generous benefits package including: health insurance with 100% of premiums covered by FSG, 3 weeks paid vacation, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, cell phone stipend, disability and life insurance, and more. The Senior Consultant position offers opportunity for advancement, pending performance, to the following roles within FSG’s consulting team: Associate Director, Director, and Managing Director.

Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for our US offices. In addition, we are unable to support the OPT Training Visa, as this visa will eventually require sponsorship.

*FSG’s US offices are currently closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Employees are working virtually and no travel is expected through at least the remainder of the first half of 2021. We will continue to monitor the situation with the health and safety of our staff at the forefront.
