Senior Manager, Staffing (US-based role)

The Senior Manager of Staffing will lead the staffing function for our US Consulting Impact Unit, track current staffing assignments and project pipelines, and identify capacity concerns. This role will partner closely with the Business Development function to identify and communicate the connection between sales and broader human capital capacity and will collaborate with members of the People team to coordinate and align professional development efforts for US Consulting staff. The Senior Manager of Staffing will incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into all aspects of our talent strategy. This role will report to our US Consulting Business Development Lead with oversight from the Head of People.



Partner with firm’s leadership and staff to optimize staffing assignments for client projects as well as internal projects

  • Partner with firm leadership to understand needs for cases/projects and make recommendations based on staff availability, skill set, and professional development goals
  • Work with consulting staff individually to understand professional goals
  • Manage communication of staffing decisions to staff and firm leadership
  • Handle difficult and/or unique employee situations with a high degree of empathy and professionalism, in keeping with FSG’s values

Manage staffing system, including all data and reporting

  • Maintain system for tracking all current staffing assignments
  • Maintain a clear view into staffing capacity, both as a point in time and also over a period of time
  • Provide capacity insights and staffing trends to inform hiring targets
  • Identify opportunities to increase transparency in staffing system
  • Maintain Enterprise Resource Planning (NetSuite) system as related to staffing

Identify and raise issues around staff capacity, professional development, team dynamics and/or individual concerns

  • Work with the Business Development function to communicate the connection between sales, pipeline, and broader human capital capacity/resource allocation discussions
  • Proactively identify and raise issues around limited and/or excess staff  capacity
  • Partner with the People team to identify and communicate professional development opportunities for US consulting staff within potential projects/proposals

Support other business and professional development projects, as applicable

  • Partner with other team members to address overall needs of the firm; assignments may include efforts to pilot new staffing processes, liaise with short-term contractors, etc.



  • 6 - 8 years of experience as either a member of a consulting team, human capital team and/or other cross-functional operations role; experience with staffing/resource allocation in a professional services setting is a strong plus
  • Organized with strong attention to detail and ability to track multiple workstreams effectively
  • Experience considering and applying diversity, equity, and inclusion principles; an understanding of equity at individual, interpersonal, institutional, and societal levels and ability to make recommendations with this awareness in mind
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment where sharing insights and knowledge to drive impact is expected and celebrated
  • Comfort working in a complex, matrixed environment that requires the ability to prioritize and communicate effectively

In addition, the candidate will have experience in:

  • Empathetic communication approaches, conveying emotional intelligence that balances the analytical and personal nature of decisions about people
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and sensitivity regarding employee information
  • Passion for FSG’s mission to create large-scale, lasting social change; knowledge of the social sector preferred
  • ERP and/or HRIS software platforms
  • Excel (or other relevant tools) to analyze quantitative data


Hybrid Work Model

In the US, FSG has offices in Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C. This full-time role can be remote or in-person, as FSG is currently operating with a hybrid model. Staff are able to work remotely from anywhere within the continental US. US-based staff can also opt-in to work in our offices – independently and for in-person meetings – in accordance with local regulations and office safety measures. FSG is continuing to monitor the pandemic and develop responsive policies while holding the health and safety of our staff at the forefront of these decisions. All FSG staff have access to variety of technological and well-being resources to support our people as we navigate our current environment together.



The starting salary for this role is $85,000. Salaries are set according to an explicit compensation policy, and relevant market data is analyzed when setting salaries for each role. We also offer a generous benefits package including: health insurance with 100% of premiums covered by FSG, 3 weeks paid vacation, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, cell phone stipend, disability and life insurance, and more.

Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for our U.S. offices. In addition, we are unable to support the OPT Training Visa, as this visa will eventually require sponsorship.
