The Alliance for Equality (formerly the Gay Straight Alliance) is an organization of both queer and straight health professions students in Charleston designed to provide a sense of community, support, and advocacy for lesbians, gays, and bisexuals in any medical profession. Our group works to organize and assist all students in improving their professional education regarding lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues. We also strive to educate policymakers about the medical, social, and personal importance of lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues. We participate in events that offer its members community service experience in ways that directly benefit lesbians, gays, and bisexuals and their families. We provide a connection to the national network of lesbian, gay, and bisexual health professionals who are committed to improving working relations, care quality, and community service. The Alliance for Equality facilitates the exchange of information between other chapters in the southeast.
