In the past two years, the far-right has escalated its brutal attacks against racial, queer, and reproductive rights and justice. Attacks on Black trans and gender-expansive artists, writers, and cultural organizers have ranged from criminalizing drag queens to book bans. While these attacks continue to expand nationwide, there is a deep need for expanded philanthropic investment and support for Black TGNC artists and cultural organizers.
Join Funders for LGBTQ Issues for a powerful conversation with Black TGNC artists about cultural organizing in the midst of hate, misinformation, and anti-LGBTQ backlash. Panelists will reflect on the ways they have been impacted by far-right strategies, share how they are sustaining their creative practices during this critical moment, and why cultural organizing is a transformative and necessary practice for intersectional movement building. Participants will walk away with best practices and strategies to center Black TGNC cultural ecosystems in their grantmaking.
Panelists include:
- George M. Johnson, author of All Boys Aren’t Blue, one of the most banned books in the United States
- J Mase III, co-editor of the award-winning Black Trans Prayer Book, which is currently in production as a full-length documentary
- HunterDae Little-Goodridge; Program Manager for the Black Trans Fund
- Sabrina Baêta, Program Consultant with Freedom to Read at PEN America
This briefing is co-sponsored by the ABFE, a Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities, and Grantmakers in the Arts.
