It has been a busy summer at Funders for LGBTQ Issues. Naa Hammond has joined the staff as our new Research & Communications Associate, Rohit Burman of the M.A.C. AIDS Fund and Beatriz “Bia” Vieira of The Philadelphia Foundation have joined our Board of Directors, and, on top of all that, we moved offices!

Our New Research and Communications Associate!

As the new Research and Communications Associate, Naa will oversee the management and maintenance of Funders for LGBTQ Issues extensive database of LGBTQ grants. She will play a key role in the production of our annual tracking report and will increase Funders’ capacity to produce additional issue-based reports and infographics related to LGBTQ grantmaking.

Naa comes to Funders for LGBTQ Issues from FIERCE, a New York City-based organization working to build the leadership and power of LGBTQ youth of color. Over a four-year tenure at FIERCE, Naa held a number of development roles, most recently serving as Director of Development. Before FIERCE, she interned with both Sylvia Rivera Law Project and Queers for Economic Justice. Naa is also an advisory board member to the Third Wave Fund.

Her keen intellect and infectiously warm and friendly demeanor have made her an asset to our team from day one.”

Nearly 400 qualified individuals applied for the Research and Communications Associate position at Funders for LGBTQ Issues. While Funders for LGBTQ Issues could only hire one candidate at this time, many of the applicants were incredibly talented.

Our New Board Members!

Funders for LGBTQ Issues is pleased to announce two new board members. Rohit Burman, Executive Director, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at the M.A.C. AIDS Fund, and Bia Vieira, Vice President of Philanthropic Services at The Philadelphia Foundation, have both joined the Board of Directors.

Rohit has spent more than decade in philanthropy, previously working at JP Morgan Chase Philanthropic Services and the MetLife Foundation. Rohit has also serves on the board of Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group and has previously been a board member of Grantmakers in the Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, Philanthropy New York, and Support Center for Nonprofit Management.

Since 2008, Bia has developed and implemented strategies for The Philadelphia Foundation’s programming, inititives and priorities for its $29 million in grantmaking investments. She currently serves on the number the boards of Philadelphia Community College and the Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia.
