Event Details

The U.S. South has always been a region of the country that offers up powerful examples of resistance and community organizing. From the African American freedom struggle to current efforts led by Southern communities who are finding new ways to respond to right wing organizing throughout the region, the South continues to be a region that is home to both deeply regressive right wing organizing and disciplined efforts to resist and build grassroots power. Even though the South has been home to such critical work, the region continues to be underfunded and undervalued because of longstanding stereotypes and unhelpful narratives about the South as a region of the country where wins are too hard to come by and forces opposing LGBTQ liberation are too entrenched to warrant investment.

Join us to hear from seasoned funders – both Southern and National – who have been investing in Southern communities for decades as they will share insights about how grantmakers can practice their craft in a way that honors the unique opportunities and challenges facing southern LGBTQ communities.
