The Road Map To $200 Million

We’ve come a long way, but we still face great challenges and have big dreams. We have a ways to go if we are to advance the long-term wellbeing of LGBTQ people. Toward that end, Funders for LGBTQ Issues is reaffirming its commitment to strategically increasing the scale and impact of philanthropic resources for LGBTQ communities. As part of a new, three-year strategic plan, Funders for LGBTQ Issues has set a bold goal of increasing annual LGBTQ philanthropic funding to $200 million by 2017.

Vital Funding – Part One

LGBTQ communities face stark health disparities ranging from high rates of HIV/AIDS and cancer to disproportionate levels of substance use and mental health challenges. This report assesses the scale and character of foundation funding addressing the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities. Between 2011 and 2013, domestic foundation funding for LGBTQ health totaled $50.4 million. In a rapidly changing landscape for both health policy and LGBTQ issues, funders now have several unique opportunities to achieve lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities.

2013 Tracking Report

The 2013 Tracking Report (2014) explores the scope and character of foundation funding for LGBTQ issues in the calendar year 2013. The report analyzes 4,146 grants from 331 foundations, making it the most comprehensiveness assessment of LGBTQ funding available. In 2013, funding for LGBTQ issues reached a record high of $129.1 million.
