In late February, the Kansas legislature overrode a veto from Governor Laura Kelly to pass a first-of-its-kind law automatically invalidating the driver licenses of trans and non-binary residents, enacting a bathroom ban, and also allowing individuals to sue people they suspect of violating this law. While enforcement is currently paused for thirty days following a legal challenge by the ACLU, if this law stands, it will cause untold harm to transgender Kansans and create a disastrous legal precedent for trans people and their families across the country.
