According to the Williams Institute, there are nearly 73,000 LGBTQ adults that call New Mexico home, accounting for 4.5 percent of the state’s populations. Approximately 26 percent of LGBTQ people in the state live on less than $24,000 a year and 24 percent of LGBTQ New Mexicans experience food insecurity. Additionally, There is no state-wide law protecting LGBT students from discrimination. Given these realities, what is philanthropy doing to support LGBTQ people in New Mexico and the greater Southwest region?
