Event Details

While grant dollars specifically focused on supporting LGBTQ Black communities have increased in recent years – reaching a record high in 2018 – the amount of support remains far too small, never exceeding more than 5 percent of all LGBTQ funding in the United States.

Building off findings from recent research from Funders for LGBTQ Issues, this webinar will offer an overview of the current state of philanthropic support for Black LGBTQ communities and consider philanthropy’s role in the past, present, and future of Black LGBTQ movements. As ABFE has named in their powerful call to action released this summer, Black LGBTQ communities faced particularly alarming disparities even before the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recession. LGBTQ Black people, particularly Black trans women, are all too often the victims of violence and police brutality. We will bring together funders and movement leaders to be in conversation about the enormous assets of leadership and vision that exist in LGBTQ Black communities to help guide the philanthropic sector to increase investment in Black-led movements and organizations.
