About

The Trans Futures Funding Campaign (TFFC) is a coordinated philanthropic organizing strategy led by trans grantmakers who have joined together to call for $10 million in new funding to invest boldly and deeply in local trans organizations.

Funds raised through this campaign will be directed to trans organizations in states, regions, and localities that are currently being targeted by the conservative right. Support will be in the form of sizable, multi-year, unrestricted grants alongside capacity-building technical assistance. Priority beneficiaries will include groups who do not have access to traditional funding streams, and are led by, or working with, some of the most vulnerable communities within the trans communities and their families – BIPOC communities, trans women and femmes, migrants, youth and elders, people with disabilities, PLWHIV, poor, and rural communities.

Goals

TFFC’s primary goal is to educate and inspire institutional funders to make more general operating, low-barrier, multi-year grants directly to transgender-led organizations in regions where the rights of transgender people are under attack, or to partner with intermediary grantmakers with existing grantee relationships in these regions. As of early 2024, TFFC has already raised over $10 million in new funds for transgender communities.

For 2025 and beyond, TFFC’s new goal is $10 million in new funding for trans justice work and intermediaries that directly fund trans justice work.

Funds raised through this campaign will be directed to trans organizations in states, regions, and localities that are currently being targeted by the conservative right. Support will be in the form of sizable, multi-year, unrestricted grants alongside capacity-building technical assistance.

Why Get Involved?

At a time of escalated attacks on the rights and lives of trans people, there has been an uptick in bills aimed at criminalizing supportive trans families, trans health care, and ultimately the very existence of trans young people.

While many groups, organizations, and individual activists rooted in communities facing these fights are doing and will continue to do all we can to defeat these attacks and literally keep our communities alive, the long-standing lack of investment in trans leaders and organizations severely limits what is possible. The most recent Resource Tracking Report produced by Funders for LGBTQ Issues shows that for every $100 awarded by U.S. foundations in 2023, only 3.5 cents supported transgender, gender non-conforming, and nonbinary (TGNCNBi) communities, which was a decrease from 4.6 cents per $100 awarded in 2022.
