Our Board Gets a Little Bigger

Funders for LGBTQ Issues is excited to introduce our community to our three newest board members: Matty Hart, Kristine Stallone, and Nathaniel (Toby) Thompkins. All three will add a unique and valued perspective to our work going forward. Matty is currently the president of the board of directors of the Calamus Foundation and a founder and principle of the Lafayette Practice in Paris. As a representative of Calamus, he has participated in several funding collaboratives, including the Civil Marriage Collaborative, and currently is the Senior Strategist of Europe for Funders Concerned About AIDS. Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday and get on board with #GivingTuesday

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. In recent years, retailers have sought to spur holiday shopping immediately following turkey day with huge retail sales on Friday (Black Friday), small business efforts on Saturday (Small Business Saturday), and big online discounts on Monday (Cyber Monday). Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Awards Grant for LGBTQ Youth in Out-of-Home Care

This month, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption awarded a grant to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation for its All Children – All Families program, which provides training on LGBTQ issues for adoption agencies and child welfare organizations. The program has primarily focused on removing barriers faced by prospective LGBTQ foster and adoptive parents; the grant will allow the program to expand with a new training curriculum on safety, permanency, and well-being for LGBTQ youth in out-of-home care. Our members commit to Philanthropy’s Promise

Funders for LGBTQ Issues applauds our members who have demonstrated their commitment to supporting underserved communities and promoting social justice by signing on to Philanthropy’s Promise. Philanthropy’s Promise is an initiative by the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) celebrating foundations that intentionally seek to benefit marginalized communities and that invest heavily in advocacy and community organizing. Foundations that sign on to Philanthropy’s Promise commit to providing at least 50 percent of their grant dollars to underserved communities, including LGBT people, and to providing at least 25 percent of their funding to supporting social justice.
