The horrendous shooting of 11 Jewish worshippers at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has no place in the future Funders for LGBTQ Issues envisions and works to inspire. We stand with the Jewish community in mourning. We strongly condemn all anti-semitic sentiments and violence as harmful, uninformed, and unacceptable. All forms of hatred – anti-semitism, racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia – are interconnected and affect us all. As more than 1.4 million transgender Americans are threatened with being written out of federal recognition by the Trump Administration, Funders for LGBTQ Issues wants to reassure trans people in philanthropy and across the country that no administration has the power to make them disappear. Moreover we will push back against this administration and we will always support transgender communities whenever, wherever, and however we can. In 2016, 115 U.S.-based foundations awarded nearly $17 million dollars to trans communities in the United States, representing a 22 percent increase from 2015 and a record high mark in funding for trans communities. Acknowledging that of every $100 dollars awarded by foundations less than 3 cents benefits trans communities, there are still several funders who we would like to applaud for significantly stepping up their support for trans communities.
