We Want to Work with You

The heart of our work is connecting with funders working throughout the South tackling a range of issues. During the past several months, we have continued our efforts to build a network of funders who care deeply about the South and who are interested in identifying concrete ways to support LGBTQ communities throughout the region. Run Down of Bad Bills

In state legislatures where almost 200 anti-LGBTQ bills  have been introduced this year alone, most are happening in southern states. Mississippi’s religious exemption bill and Tennessee’s anti LGBTQ counseling bill offer two examples of harsh bills aimed at codifying discrimination against LGBTQ southerners into state law.   In North Carolina, the passage of HB2, an anti-trans local pre-emption bill, has galvanized North Carolinians in response to this bill in powerful ways. Grassroots organizers, long standing coalitions,policy change advocates, business leaders, local municipalities, artists and national celebrities have taken public stands against HB2. The Institute for Southern Studies offers a case for why the HB2 boycotts are working. Statement on Orlando from Funders for LGBTQ Issues

As an organization, as a network, and above all as a community, Funders for LGBTQ Issues is in mourning, in sympathy, and in solidarity with and for all those affected by this weekend’s tragic act of violence against the LGBTQ community. This past Saturday night, a man attacked Pulse, an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando. It was Latin night, during Pride Month, a time when the LGBTQ community celebrates our heritage and history of activism. Responding to the Tragic Shooting and Massacre in Orlando – What Can Funders Do?

Updated December 2016 On June 12, 2016, a gunman attacked an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, leaving at least 100 victims, nearly all LGBTQ, Latino/a, and young. It was one of the worst mass shootings in the U.S. since the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. For funders and individual donors concerned about this tragic act of anti-LGBTQ violence, there are a number of ways you can help.
