In 2016, 115 U.S.-based foundations awarded nearly $17 million dollars to trans communities in the United States, representing a 22 percent increase from 2015 and a record high mark in funding for trans communities. Acknowledging that of every $100 dollars awarded by foundations less than 3 cents benefits trans communities, there are still several funders who we would like to applaud for significantly stepping up their support for trans communities. Funders for LGBTQ Issues joins the chorus of voices in denouncing the Trump Administration’s inhumane and unjustifiable separation and detention of families at the United States border and the blatantly discriminatory ban on Muslim immigrants. We encourage our network of funders to help fill the moral void that is being left by a government that either cannot or will not act to resolve this unacceptable situation. Each summer we begin our outreach campaign to request LGBTQ grantmaking data from hundreds of funders across the U.S., compiling the data set that will form the bedrock of our annual Tracking Report series.
