Local Funders Stepping up for LGBTQ Issues

  This fall, Funders for LGBTQ Issues collaborated with local partners in seven cities to advance philanthropy for LGBTQ communities. These events ranged from panel discussions to immersion tours, but at each one we explored the most urgent needs facing LGBTQ communities. Across the country, local funders are stepping up their leadership for LGBTQ communities and exploring innovative models, such as developing LGBTQ-friendly neighborhoods, building a local center for LGBTQ philanthropy, and convening cross-sector partnerships to address youth homelessness. An Update on the Top 10 Funders in the U.S. South

In 2013, we launched what has since become known as our Out in the South Initiative with the goal of increasing funding for LGBTQ communities throughout the US South. In 2014 we released Out in the South, Part One: Foundation Funding for LGBTQ Issues in the U.S. South, the first report that looked specifically at philanthropic support for LGBTQ communities in the South. Can a $250,000 Grant Unite a Growing Intersex Movement?

The first ever intersex-specific grant from the U.S. State Department-administered Global Equality Fund is helping to raise the profile of global intersex issues. The grant represents an important acknowledgment of the growing intersex movement, as intersex people around the world continue to face unacceptable violence and discrimination. As noted by J.
