For more than a decade, we have tracked and analyzed funding for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) issues. Our annual tracking report raises the visibility of LGBTQ issues in philanthropy by highlighting funding trends over time and helping grantmakers identify opportunities, gaps, and partners to strengthen their work in strategic ways. A Hopeful Victory in the Continuing the Struggle for Reproductive Justice

Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down a Louisiana law that required doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals–a significant victory for reproductive justice and for the people of Louisiana. The effect of the law would have been to force the closure of all but one abortion provider in the state of Louisiana, which would have drastically reduced access to reproductive care and disproportionately impacted Black women, who make up more than 60 percent of those seeking abortions in the state. Today on Juneteenth, and in recognition of the ongoing struggle for full Black liberation, Funders for LGBTQ Issues stands in solidarity with ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities in their call for philanthropy to take action on anti-Black racism. ABFE is the oldest affinity group in the country, borne out of a moment of both conflict and action, when Black leaders raised their voices to protest the lack of representation within philanthropy.
